I must admit that when it comes to cooking I am not exactly a culinary wiz. But who can blame me, my boyfriend's a chef and my mum is a great cook too. So when it comes to serving up a scrumptious meal I leave it up to them. However I must admit there is one recipe that I am the master of; I can cook a perfect soft boiled egg. It’s the perfect meal to have anytime of the day. Sure it seems simple, but getting a perfect runny yolk every time requires skill in my eyes - not a second over or under 5 minutes, timing is everything.

Perfect soft boiled free range eggs served with soldiers


  • Extra large free range eggs by Ellah
  • 1 loaf of fresh sourdough
  • salt and freshly ground pepper


  1. Bring a small pot of water to the boil.
  2. Place the eggs one by one, gently into the water. Cook the eggs for no longer than 5 minutes; this amount of time will give you Perfect Soft Boiled Eggs. Cut the top off and season.
  3. Slice the Sour Dough and toast, cut into soldiers and enjoy with your dippy eggs!
